Under The Mesquite by Guadalupe Garcia McCall

index.aspx.jpg  This novel was a new style for me.  I don't usually read novels in verse or diaries but I'm really glad I read this one.  It is about a young Mexican woman, Lupita, living in the U.S. and about adjusting to life here while still keeping strong ties with her homeland.  Lupita copes with the joys and struggles of a large family, attending high school, and her mother's illness.  This beautiful novel gives a real sense of hope and purpose to everyone dealing with difficulties in their life.  It is an easy read and well worth it!
