Gene carefully follows the rules to go undetected in this dangerous society. He knows to carefully control his biological urges and hide his body odor. When Gene is selected for a special opportunity to hunt the last remaining known humans, he is in grave danger of being discovered.
16 year old Violet has always had the ability to sense murdered bodies. After she finds the dead animals and puts them to rest properly, their echoes stop calling to her. Once, when she was eight, Violet found the body of a murdered girl. Now a serial killer is stalking girls in Violet’s small town and the echoes of the murdered girls are compelling Violet to help find the killer.
15 year old Robie lives at a research station on Midway island, a wildlife refuge. She doesn't have much of a social life but she knows a lot about wildlife. She needs to use all her knowledge when her flight crashes and she survives on her own in the ocean. I loved this book and found myself routing for Robie with each new challenge.
